About me

I am originally from Olympia, WA. I grew up in a very classical music-friendly household, and began studying piano at the age of four. I later fell in love with the sound of the oboe, so I began lessons and joined band in sixth grade. Not long after, I joined the local youth symphony, where I also fell in love with playing in orchestra.

I continued my musical education at the Boston Conservatory, where I studied with Amanda Hardy, Principal of the Portland, Maine Symphony. After that, I moved back to Washington to study with Mary Lynch VanderKolk, Principal of the Seattle Symphony. Both Amanda and Mary were students of John Ferrillo, Principal of the Boston Symphony, with whom I also studied reed-making.

Currently, I live in Kirkland, WA, where I enjoy teaching students of all ages, levels, and musical backgrounds. I enjoy the variety of experiences that music brings to my life, such as adjudicating regional Solo and Ensemble competitions, coaching for local schools and youth symphonies, and regularly performing with local orchestras, including the North Corner Chamber Orchestra, Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra, and Federal Way Symphony.
